In this tutorial we learn how to install xmp on Kali Linux.

What is xmp

xmp is:

xmp is a multi-format module player for UNIX. In machines with GUS or AWE cards xmp takes advantage of the OSS sequencer to play modules with virtually no system load. Using software mixing, xmp plays at sampling rates up to 48 kHz in mono or stereo, 8 or 16 bits, signed or unsigned, little or big endian samples with 32 bit linear interpolation. xmp currently supports more than 40 module formats.

There are three methods to install xmp on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xmp Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xmp using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xmp

Install xmp Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xmp using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xmp

Install xmp Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xmp using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xmp

How To Uninstall xmp on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the xmp package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xmp

Uninstall xmp And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xmp and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xmp

Remove xmp Configurations and Data

To remove xmp configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xmp

Remove xmp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove xmp configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xmp
