What is xmonad-mate

xmonad is a tiling window manager for X. Windows are arranged automatically to tile the screen without gaps or overlap, maximising screen use. All features of the window manager are accessible from the keyboard is written and extensible in Haskell. Custom layout algorithms, and other extensions, may be written by the user in config files. Layouts are applied dynamically, and different layouts may be used on each workspace. Xinerama is fully supported, allowing windows to be tiled on several screens. This package adds a “xmonad-mate” X session configuration so that xmonad can be started easily from GDM to run in a MATE session.

We can use yum or dnf to install xmonad-mate on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install xmonad-mate.

Install xmonad-mate on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install xmonad-mate using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install xmonad-mate

Install xmonad-mate on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install xmonad-mate using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install xmonad-mate

How To Uninstall xmonad-mate on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the xmonad-mate package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove xmonad-mate
