How To Install xmonad on CentOS 7

In this tutorial we learn how to install xmonad
on CentOS 7.
What is xmonad
xmonad is a tiling window manager for X. Windows are arranged automatically to tile the screen without gaps or overlap, maximising screen use. All features of the window manager are accessible from the keyboard is written and extensible in Haskell. Custom layout algorithms, and other extensions, may be written by the user in config files. Layouts are applied dynamically, and different layouts may be used on each workspace. Xinerama is fully supported, allowing windows to be tiled on several screens. This is a meta-package that installs xmonad-basic and ghc-xmonad-contrib-devel, allowing xmonad to be customized with “~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs”. To use xmonad with GNOME/MATE, please install xmonad-mate.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install xmonad
on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install xmonad.

Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
After updating yum database, We can install xmonad
using yum

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
