What is xmonad-basic

xmonad is a tiling window manager for X. Windows are arranged automatically to tile the screen without gaps or overlap, maximising screen use. All features of the window manager are accessible from the keyboard is written and extensible in Haskell. Custom layout algorithms, and other extensions, may be written by the user in config files. Layouts are applied dynamically, and different layouts may be used on each workspace. Xinerama is fully supported, allowing windows to be tiled on several screens. This meta-package allows running the default basic upstream xmonad configuration with xterm and dmenu. If you want to customize xmonad, please install xmonad or xmonad-mate.

We can use yum or dnf to install xmonad-basic on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install xmonad-basic.

Install xmonad-basic on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install xmonad-basic using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install xmonad-basic

Install xmonad-basic on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install xmonad-basic using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install xmonad-basic

How To Uninstall xmonad-basic on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the xmonad-basic package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove xmonad-basic
