How To Install xmaxima on Ubuntu 18.04

What is xmaxima
xmaxima is:
Maxima is a fully symbolic computation program. It is full featured doing symbolic manipulation of polynomials, matrices, rational functions, integration, Todd-coxeter methods for finite group analysis, graphing, multiple precision floating point computation. It has a symbolic source level debugger for maxima code. Maxima is based on the original Macsyma developed at MIT in the 1970s. It is quite reliable, and has good garbage collection, and no memory leaks. It comes with hundreds of self tests.
This package contains an X Windows interface using the tcl/tk libraries.
There are three methods to install xmaxima on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xmaxima Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xmaxima using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xmaxima
Install xmaxima Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xmaxima using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xmaxima
Install xmaxima Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xmaxima using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xmaxima
How To Uninstall xmaxima on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the xmaxima package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xmaxima

To uninstall xmaxima and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

Remove xmaxima Configurations and Data
To remove xmaxima configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xmaxima
