Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install xmacro on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is xmacro

xmacro is:

xmacrorec can be used to record mouse and keyboard events on any X11 display.

xmacroplay can be used to playback recorded events or send any other mouse/keyboard events you choose. It is very handy for scripting an X display - for example controlling a presentation in mgp or ultrapoint from a script, network connection…

xmacroplay-keys is a script to help use the above.

Together these utils can be used to record and replay sessions for demonstrations etc.

There are three methods to install xmacro on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xmacro Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xmacro using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xmacro

Install xmacro Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xmacro using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xmacro

Install xmacro Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xmacro using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xmacro

How To Uninstall xmacro on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the xmacro package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xmacro

Uninstall xmacro And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xmacro and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xmacro

Remove xmacro Configurations and Data

To remove xmacro configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xmacro

Remove xmacro configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove xmacro configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xmacro
