What is xloadimage

Xloadimage is a utility which will view many different types of images under X11, load images onto the root window, or dump processed images into one of several image file formats. The current version can read many different image file types. A variety of options are available to modify images prior to viewing. These options include clipping, dithering, depth reduction, zoom (either X or Y axis independently or both at once), brightening or darkening, and image merging. When applicable, these options are done automatically (eg a color image to be displayed on a monochrome screen will be dithered automatically).

We can use yum or dnf to install xloadimage on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install xloadimage.

Install xloadimage on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install xloadimage using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install xloadimage

Install xloadimage on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install xloadimage using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install xloadimage

How To Uninstall xloadimage on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the xloadimage package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove xloadimage
