What is xfwm4

xfwm4 is:

This package contains xfwm4 which is the window manager for Xfce4. It is designed to run with the rest of Xfce4 but makes a capable window manager for GNOME or KDE.

Install xfwm4 if you want a small, resource saving window manager which complies to the standards defined at http://www.freedesktop.org/. Without xfce4 installed this only gives you a window manager not the full environment.

There are three methods to install xfwm4 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xfwm4 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xfwm4 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xfwm4

Install xfwm4 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xfwm4 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xfwm4

Install xfwm4 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xfwm4 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xfwm4

How To Uninstall xfwm4 on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the xfwm4 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xfwm4

Uninstall xfwm4 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xfwm4 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xfwm4

Remove xfwm4 Configurations and Data

To remove xfwm4 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xfwm4

Remove xfwm4 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove xfwm4 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xfwm4
