In this tutorial we learn how to install xfonts-mplus on Kali Linux.

What is xfonts-mplus

xfonts-mplus is:

M+ bitmap fonts were designed to be simple and highly readable. It includes ISO-8859-1,15 (6/10/12 dot) fonts and all Japanese jisx0208.1990 Kanji fonts (10/12 dot) as following:

  • mplus-gothic: M+ Gothic fonts (10/12dot, ISO-8859-1/Japanese)
  • mplus-goth_p: it’s similar to mplus-gothic, but its Latin character part is proportional fonts (10/12dot, ISO-8859-1/Japanese)
  • mplus-fxd: yet another “fixed” fonts (10/12dot, ISO-8859-1/15)
  • mplus-hlv: yet another “helvetica” fonts (10/12dot, ISO-8859-1/15)
  • mplus-hlvw: 1 dot wide fonts than mplus-hlv ( 12dot, ISO-8859-1/15)
  • mplus-sys: for window title/menu (10dot, ISO-8859-1/15)
  • mplus-qub: 6 dot very small font (6dot, ISO-8859-1/15)

There are three methods to install xfonts-mplus on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xfonts-mplus Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-mplus using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xfonts-mplus

Install xfonts-mplus Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-mplus using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xfonts-mplus

Install xfonts-mplus Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-mplus using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xfonts-mplus

How To Uninstall xfonts-mplus on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the xfonts-mplus package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xfonts-mplus

Uninstall xfonts-mplus And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xfonts-mplus and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xfonts-mplus

Remove xfonts-mplus Configurations and Data

To remove xfonts-mplus configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xfonts-mplus

Remove xfonts-mplus configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove xfonts-mplus configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xfonts-mplus
