How To Install xfe on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install xfe on Kali Linux.
What is xfe
xfe is:
Xfe is based on the popular but discontinued X Win Commander. It is desktop independent and is written using the C++ Fox Toolkit. Its appearance is similar to the Windows file-manager Total Commander or Windows Explorer. It is very fast and simple.
The main features are: file associations, mount/umount devices, directory tree for quick cd, change file attributes, auto save registry, compressed archives view/creation/extraction, compatibility with GNOME/KDE/Xfce, and much more.
Containing a simple text editor (Xfwrite), image viewer (Xfimage) and package manager (Xfpack).
There are three methods to install xfe on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xfe Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xfe using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xfeInstall xfe Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xfe using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xfeInstall xfe Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xfe using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xfeHow To Uninstall xfe on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the xfe package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xfeUninstall xfe And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xfe and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xfeRemove xfe Configurations and Data
To remove xfe configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xfeRemove xfe configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xfe configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xfeDependencies
