How To Install xdot on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install xdot on Kali Linux.
What is xdot
xdot is:
xdot is an interactive viewer for graphs written in Graphviz’s dot language. It uses internally the graphviz’s xdot output format as an intermediate format, and PyGTK and Cairo for rendering. xdot can be used either as a standalone application from command line, or as a library embedded in your Python 3 application.
Features:
- Since it doesn’t use bitmaps it is fast and has a small memory footprint.
- Arbitrary zoom.
- Keyboard/mouse navigation.
- Supports events on the nodes with URLs.
- Animated jumping between nodes.
- Highlights node/edge under mouse.
There are three methods to install xdot on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xdot Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xdot using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xdotInstall xdot Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xdot using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xdotInstall xdot Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xdot using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xdotHow To Uninstall xdot on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the xdot package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xdotUninstall xdot And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xdot and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xdotRemove xdot Configurations and Data
To remove xdot configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xdotRemove xdot configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xdot configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xdotDependencies
