How To Install xdemorse on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install xdemorse on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is xdemorse
xdemorse is:
X/GTK+ application for decoding Morse code signals into text. xdemorse detects the “dihs” and “dahs” that make a Morse code character via the computer’s sound card, which can be connected to a radio receiver tuned to a CW Morse code transmission or to a tone generator.
The input signal is processed by a Goertzel tone detector algorithm which produces “mark” or “space” (signal/no signal) outputs and the resulting stream of Morse code “elements” is decoded into an ASCII character for printing to the Text viewer.
xdemorse has a certain level of tolerance towards operator errors (bad “fist”) regarding deviation from the standard duration of the various elements that make up the Morse code.There is a “Waterfall” (audio spectrum) display derived from an integer-arithmetic FFT of the receiver’s audio output.
This program has built-in CAT capability but only for the Yaesu FT847 or FT857 and Elecraft K2 or K3.
There are three methods to install xdemorse on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xdemorse Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xdemorse using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xdemorse
Install xdemorse Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xdemorse using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xdemorse
Install xdemorse Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xdemorse using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xdemorse
How To Uninstall xdemorse on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the xdemorse package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xdemorse
Uninstall xdemorse And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xdemorse and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xdemorse
Remove xdemorse Configurations and Data
To remove xdemorse configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xdemorse
Remove xdemorse configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xdemorse configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xdemorse
