In this tutorial we learn how to install wsclean on Kali Linux.

What is wsclean

wsclean is:

WSClean (w-stacking clean) is a fast generic widefield imager. It uses the w-stacking algorithm and can make use of the w-snapshot algorithm. As of Feb 2014, it is 2-12 times faster than CASA’s w-projection, depending on the array configuration. It supports full-sky imaging and proper beam correction for homogeneous dipole arrays such as the MWA.

WSClean allows Hogbom and Cotton-Schwab cleaning, and can clean polarizations joinedly. All operations are performed on the CPU (it is not specialized for GPUs).

There are three methods to install wsclean on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install wsclean Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install wsclean using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install wsclean

Install wsclean Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install wsclean using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install wsclean

Install wsclean Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install wsclean using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install wsclean

How To Uninstall wsclean on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the wsclean package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove wsclean

Uninstall wsclean And Its Dependencies

To uninstall wsclean and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove wsclean

Remove wsclean Configurations and Data

To remove wsclean configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge wsclean

Remove wsclean configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove wsclean configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
