How To Install wsclean-dev on Ubuntu 18.04

What is wsclean-dev
wsclean-dev is:
WSClean (w-stacking clean) is a fast generic widefield imager. It uses the w-stacking algorithm and can make use of the w-snapshot algorithm. As of Feb 2014, it is 2-12 times faster than CASA’s w-projection, depending on the array configuration. It supports full-sky imaging and proper beam correction for homogeneous dipole arrays such as the MWA.
WSClean allows Hogbom and Cotton-Schwab cleaning, and can clean polarizations joinedly. All operations are performed on the CPU (it is not specialized for GPUs).
This package contains the static library and the header file to compile own programs against the library.
There are three methods to install wsclean-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install wsclean-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install wsclean-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install wsclean-dev
Install wsclean-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install wsclean-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install wsclean-dev
Install wsclean-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install wsclean-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install wsclean-dev
How To Uninstall wsclean-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the wsclean-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove wsclean-dev
Uninstall wsclean-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall wsclean-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove wsclean-dev
Remove wsclean-dev Configurations and Data
To remove wsclean-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge wsclean-dev
Remove wsclean-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove wsclean-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge wsclean-dev
