How To Install wsclean on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install wsclean
on Debian 9.
What is wsclean
wsclean is:
WSClean (w-stacking clean) is a fast generic widefield imager. It uses the w-stacking algorithm and can make use of the w-snapshot algorithm. As of Feb 2014, it is 2-12 times faster than CASA’s w-projection, depending on the array configuration. It supports full-sky imaging and proper beam correction for homogeneous dipole arrays such as the MWA.
WSClean allows Hogbom and Cotton-Schwab cleaning, and can clean polarizations joinedly. All operations are performed on the CPU (it is not specialized for GPUs).
There are three methods to install wsclean
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install wsclean Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install wsclean
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install wsclean

After updating apt database, We can install wsclean

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

After updating apt database, We can install wsclean
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install wsclean
How To Uninstall wsclean on Debian 9
To uninstall only the wsclean
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove wsclean
Uninstall wsclean And Its Dependencies
To uninstall wsclean
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove wsclean
Remove wsclean Configurations and Data
To remove wsclean
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge wsclean
