How To Install wmctrl on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install wmctrl on Kali Linux.
What is wmctrl
wmctrl is:
Wmctrl is a command line tool to interact with an EWMH/NetWM compatible X Window Manager (examples include Enlightenment, icewm, kwin, metacity, and sawfish).
Wmctrl provides command line access to almost all the features defined in the EWMH specification. For example it can maximize windows, make them sticky, set them to be always on top. It can switch and resize desktops and perform many other useful operations.
There are three methods to install wmctrl on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install wmctrl Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install wmctrl using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install wmctrlInstall wmctrl Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install wmctrl using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install wmctrlInstall wmctrl Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install wmctrl using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install wmctrlHow To Uninstall wmctrl on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the wmctrl package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove wmctrlUninstall wmctrl And Its Dependencies
To uninstall wmctrl and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove wmctrlRemove wmctrl Configurations and Data
To remove wmctrl configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge wmctrlRemove wmctrl configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove wmctrl configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge wmctrlDependencies
