What is wireguard-tools
WireGuard is a novel VPN that runs inside the Linux Kernel and uses state-of-the-art cryptography (the “Noise” protocol). It aims to be faster, simpler, leaner, and more useful than IPSec, while avoiding the massive headache. It intends to be considerably more performant than OpenVPN. WireGuard is designed as a general purpose VPN for running on embedded interfaces and super computers alike, fit for many different circumstances. It runs over UDP. This package provides the wg binary for controlling WireGuard.
We can use yum or dnf to install wireguard-tools on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install wireguard-tools.
Install wireguard-tools on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install wireguard-tools using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install wireguard-tools
Install wireguard-tools on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install wireguard-tools using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install wireguard-tools
How To Uninstall wireguard-tools on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the wireguard-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove wireguard-tools
