How To Install wine on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install wine on CentOS 8.
What is wine
Wine as a compatibility layer for UNIX to run Windows applications. This package includes a program loader, which allows unmodified Windows 3.x/9x/NT binaries to run on x86 and x86_64 Unixes. Wine can use native system .dll files if they are available. In Fedora wine is a meta-package which will install everything needed for wine to work smoothly. Smaller setups can be achieved by installing some of the wine-* sub packages.
We can use yum or dnf to install wine on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install wine.
Install wine on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install wine using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install wine
Install wine on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install wine using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install wine
How To Uninstall wine on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the wine package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove wine
