How To Install wicd-daemon on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install wicd-daemon on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is wicd-daemon
wicd-daemon is:
Wicd is a general-purpose network configuration server which aims to provide a simple but flexible interface for connecting to networks. Its features include:
- wide variety of settings;
- ability to connect to (and maintain profiles for) both wired and wireless networks;
- support for many encryption schemes, including WEP, WPA, WPA2 and custom schemes;
- wireless-tools compatibility.
This package contains the daemon needed to run Wicd.
There are three methods to install wicd-daemon on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install wicd-daemon Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install wicd-daemon using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install wicd-daemon
Install wicd-daemon Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install wicd-daemon using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install wicd-daemon
Install wicd-daemon Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install wicd-daemon using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install wicd-daemon
How To Uninstall wicd-daemon on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the wicd-daemon package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove wicd-daemon
Uninstall wicd-daemon And Its Dependencies
To uninstall wicd-daemon and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove wicd-daemon
Remove wicd-daemon Configurations and Data
To remove wicd-daemon configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge wicd-daemon
Remove wicd-daemon configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove wicd-daemon configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
