How To Install whatmask on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install whatmask on Kali Linux.
What is whatmask
whatmask is:
This package contains a small C program that will help you with network settings. Whatmask can work in two modes. The first mode is to invoke Whatmask with only a subnet mask as the argument. In this mode Whatmask will echo back the subnet mask in four formats, plus the number of useable addresses in the range. The second mode is to invoke Whatmask with any ip address within the subnet, followed by a slash (’/’), followed by the subnet mask in any format. Whatmask will echo back the following:
- The netmask in the following formats: CIDR, Netmask, Netmask (Hex) Wildcard Bits
- The Network Address
- The Broadcast Address
- The number of Usable IP Addresses
- The First Usable IP Address
- The Last Usable IP Address
There are three methods to install whatmask on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install whatmask Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install whatmask using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install whatmaskInstall whatmask Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install whatmask using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install whatmaskInstall whatmask Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install whatmask using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install whatmaskHow To Uninstall whatmask on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the whatmask package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove whatmaskUninstall whatmask And Its Dependencies
To uninstall whatmask and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove whatmaskRemove whatmask Configurations and Data
To remove whatmask configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge whatmaskRemove whatmask configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove whatmask configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge whatmaskDependencies
