How To Install weechat-plugins on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install weechat-plugins
on Debian 9.
What is weechat-plugins
weechat-plugins is:
WeeChat (Wee Enhanced Environment for Chat) is a fast and light chat client for many operating systems. Everything can be done with a keyboard.
This package provides some plugins to enhance WeeChat. It currently ships the following plugins:
- Perl, Python, Ruby, Lua, Tcl, Scheme and Javascript scripting
- scripts manager
- Spell checking (thanks to aspell)
- FIFO pipe for remote control
- IRC proxy
- Trigger
There are three methods to install weechat-plugins
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install weechat-plugins Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install weechat-plugins
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install weechat-plugins

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install weechat-plugins
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install weechat-plugins
Install weechat-plugins Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install weechat-plugins
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install weechat-plugins
How To Uninstall weechat-plugins on Debian 9
To uninstall only the weechat-plugins
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove weechat-plugins
Uninstall weechat-plugins And Its Dependencies
To uninstall weechat-plugins
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove weechat-plugins
Remove weechat-plugins Configurations and Data
To remove weechat-plugins
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge weechat-plugins
Remove weechat-plugins configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove weechat-plugins
