In this tutorial we learn how to install wcstools on AlmaLinux 8.
What is wcstools
Wcstools is a set of software utilities, written in C, which create, display and manipulate the world coordinate system of a FITS or IRAF image, using specific keywords in the image header which relate pixel position within the image to position on the sky. Auxiliary programs search star catalogs and manipulate images.
We can use yum or dnf to install wcstools on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install wcstools.
Install wcstools on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install wcstools using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install wcstools
Install wcstools on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install wcstools using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install wcstools
How To Uninstall wcstools on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the wcstools package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove wcstools
