What is w9wm

w9wm is:

w9wm is a small window manager. It can be used to imitate the appearance expected from a plan9 conforming desktop.

It shares most of its appearance with the window manager 9wm, from which it descends. It provides some additional features such as support for virtual screens as well as keyboard bindings.

There are three methods to install w9wm on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install w9wm Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install w9wm using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install w9wm

Install w9wm Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install w9wm using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install w9wm

Install w9wm Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install w9wm using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install w9wm

How To Uninstall w9wm on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the w9wm package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove w9wm

To uninstall w9wm and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove w9wm

Remove w9wm Configurations and Data

To remove w9wm configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge w9wm
