w3m is a text-based World Wide Web browser with IPv6 support. It features excellent support for tables and frames. It can be used as a standalone file pager, too.

  • You can follow links and/or view images in HTML.
  • Internet message preview mode, you can browse HTML mail.
  • You can follow links in plain text if it includes URL forms.
  • With w3m-img, you can view inline images.

This package provides Debian’s w3m, forked from the original version https://sourceforge.net/projects/w3m/.

There are three methods to install w3m on Debian 11. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install w3m Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install w3m using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install w3m

Install w3m Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install w3m using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install w3m

Install w3m Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install w3m using aptitude by running the following command:

How To Uninstall w3m on Debian 11
