How To Install vstream-client on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install vstream-client
on Debian 9.
What is vstream-client
vstream-client is:
Vstream-client is a fork off of the vstream library from the tivo-mplayer project. It has been stripped down to just the client code, and includes an example client application. If you have vserver installed on your Tivo (which most tivo hackers do), then you can use this simple client to stream .ty files from it. MPlayer includes support for this library. This library can be used by MPlayer/MEncoder to watch/re-encode tivo streams live over a network.
There are three methods to install vstream-client
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vstream-client Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install vstream-client
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vstream-client

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install vstream-client
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vstream-client
Install vstream-client Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install vstream-client
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vstream-client
How To Uninstall vstream-client on Debian 9
To uninstall only the vstream-client
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vstream-client
Uninstall vstream-client And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vstream-client
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vstream-client
Remove vstream-client Configurations and Data
To remove vstream-client
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vstream-client
Remove vstream-client configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
