How To Install vsearch on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install vsearch on Kali Linux.
What is vsearch
vsearch is:
Versatile 64-bit multithreaded tool for processing metagenomic sequences, including searching, clustering, chimera detection, dereplication, sorting, masking and shuffling
The aim of this project is to create an alternative to the USEARCH tool developed by Robert C. Edgar (2010). The new tool should:
- have a 64-bit design that handles very large databases and much more than 4GB of memory
- be as accurate or more accurate than usearch
- be as fast or faster than usearch
There are three methods to install vsearch on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vsearch Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vsearch using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vsearchInstall vsearch Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vsearch using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vsearchInstall vsearch Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vsearch using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vsearchHow To Uninstall vsearch on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the vsearch package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vsearchUninstall vsearch And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vsearch and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vsearchRemove vsearch Configurations and Data
To remove vsearch configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vsearchRemove vsearch configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove vsearch configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vsearchDependencies
