How To Install vokoscreen-ng on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install vokoscreen-ng on Kali Linux.
What is vokoscreen-ng
vokoscreen-ng is:
vokoscreenNG can be used to record videos from computers screen, webcams, external cameras, etc. This graphical tool can produce educational videos, live recordings of browser navigation, tutorials of installations, record videoconferences, etc. You can capture an alone video or video and sound.
This program can save files in some formats and use some codecs for video and audio:
- Video: x264, openh264, H.264 (Intel GPU), MPEG-2 (Intel GPU) and VP8.
- Audio: vorbis, flac, opus, mp3 and aac.
- File : mkv, webm, avi, mp4 and mov.
NOTE: for now openh264 and acc are not available in Debian.
vokoscreenNG is a modern full replacement for vokoscreen, both written by Volker Kohaupt. The main difference is that vokoscreen uses ffmpeg as base, while vokoscreenNG has been rewritten from scratch and is based in GStreamer.
There are three methods to install vokoscreen-ng on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vokoscreen-ng Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vokoscreen-ng using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vokoscreen-ngInstall vokoscreen-ng Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vokoscreen-ng using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vokoscreen-ngInstall vokoscreen-ng Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vokoscreen-ng using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vokoscreen-ngHow To Uninstall vokoscreen-ng on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the vokoscreen-ng package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vokoscreen-ngUninstall vokoscreen-ng And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vokoscreen-ng and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vokoscreen-ngRemove vokoscreen-ng Configurations and Data
To remove vokoscreen-ng configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vokoscreen-ngRemove vokoscreen-ng configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove vokoscreen-ng configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vokoscreen-ngDependencies
