How To Install vlc on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install vlc on Kali Linux.
What is vlc
vlc is:
VLC is the VideoLAN project’s media player. It plays MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MOV, WMV, QuickTime, WebM, FLAC, MP3, Ogg/Vorbis files, DVDs, VCDs, podcasts, and multimedia streams from various network sources.
VLC can also be used as a streaming server that duplicates the stream it reads and multicasts them through the network to other clients, or serves them through HTTP.
VLC has support for on-the-fly transcoding of audio and video formats, either for broadcasting purposes or for movie format transformations. Support for most output methods is provided by this package, but features can be added by installing additional plugins:

There are three methods to install vlc on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vlc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vlc using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vlcInstall vlc Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vlc using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vlcInstall vlc Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vlc using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vlcHow To Uninstall vlc on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the vlc package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vlcUninstall vlc And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vlc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vlcRemove vlc Configurations and Data
To remove vlc configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vlcRemove vlc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove vlc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vlcDependencies
