How To Install vim on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install vim on Kali Linux.
What is vim
vim is:
Vim is an almost compatible version of the UNIX editor Vi.
Many new features have been added: multi level undo, syntax highlighting, command line history, on-line help, filename completion, block operations, folding, Unicode support, etc.
This package contains a version of vim compiled with a rather standard set of features. This package does not provide a GUI version of Vim. See the other vim-* packages if you need more (or less).
There are three methods to install vim on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vim Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vim using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vimInstall vim Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vim using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vimInstall vim Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install vim using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vimHow To Uninstall vim on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the vim package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vimUninstall vim And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vim and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vimRemove vim Configurations and Data
To remove vim configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vimRemove vim configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vimDependencies
