How To Install vim-gtk3 on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install vim-gtk3 on Kali Linux.

What is vim-gtk3

vim-gtk3 is:

Vim is an almost compatible version of the UNIX editor Vi.

Many new features have been added: multi level undo, syntax highlighting, command line history, on-line help, filename completion, block operations, folding, Unicode support, etc.

This package contains a version of vim compiled with a GTK3 GUI and support for scripting with Lua, Perl, Python 3, Ruby, and Tcl.

There are three methods to install vim-gtk3 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install vim-gtk3 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install vim-gtk3 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install vim-gtk3

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install vim-gtk3 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install vim-gtk3

Install vim-gtk3 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install vim-gtk3 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install vim-gtk3

How To Uninstall vim-gtk3 on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the vim-gtk3 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove vim-gtk3

Uninstall vim-gtk3 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall vim-gtk3 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove vim-gtk3

Remove vim-gtk3 Configurations and Data

To remove vim-gtk3 configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge vim-gtk3

Remove vim-gtk3 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove vim-gtk3 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
