What is vim-common
VIM (VIsual editor iMproved) is an updated and improved version of the vi editor. Vi was the first real screen-based editor for UNIX, and is still very popular. VIM improves on vi by adding new features multiple windows, multi-level undo, block highlighting and more. The vim-common package contains files which every VIM binary will need in order to run. If you are installing vim-enhanced or vim-X11, you’ll also need to install the vim-common package.
We can use yum or dnf to install vim-common on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install vim-common.
Install vim-common on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install vim-common using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install vim-common
Install vim-common on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install vim-common using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install vim-common
How To Uninstall vim-common on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the vim-common package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove vim-common
