How To Install viewmol on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install viewmol on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is viewmol
viewmol is:
Viewmol is able to graphically aid in the generation of molecular structures for computations and to visualize their results.
At present Viewmol includes input filters for Discover, DMol3, Gamess, Gaussian 9x/03, Gulp, Mopac, PQS, Turbomole, and Vamp outputs as well as for PDB files. Structures can be saved as Accelrys’ car-files, MDL files, and Turbomole coordinate files. Viewmol can generate input files for Gaussian 9x/03. Viewmol’s file format has been added to OpenBabel so that OpenBabel can serve as an input as well as an output filter for coordinates.
There are three methods to install viewmol on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install viewmol Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install viewmol using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install viewmol
Install viewmol Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install viewmol using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install viewmol
Install viewmol Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install viewmol using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install viewmol
How To Uninstall viewmol on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the viewmol package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove viewmol
Uninstall viewmol And Its Dependencies
To uninstall viewmol and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove viewmol
Remove viewmol Configurations and Data
To remove viewmol configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge viewmol
Remove viewmol configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove viewmol configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge viewmol
