In this tutorial we learn how to install vflib3 on Kali Linux.

What is vflib3

vflib3 is:

VFlib3 is a font rasterizer library for multi-lingual information processing. Using VFlib3, you can obtain bitmap data of characters(glyphs) from various fonts in a unified manner.

VFlib3 can handle almost all font formats available - it now supports PK, GF, VF, TFM, OFM level 0, OVF, PCF, BDF, HBF, Syotai-Club, JG, eKanji and more. TrueType and Type 1 fonts are also supported via FreeType2. Font search via kpathsea is supported, too.

This package contains the shared library and configuration files needed to run programs using VFlib3.

There are three methods to install vflib3 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install vflib3 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install vflib3 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install vflib3

Install vflib3 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install vflib3 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install vflib3

Install vflib3 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install vflib3 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install vflib3

How To Uninstall vflib3 on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the vflib3 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove vflib3

Uninstall vflib3 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall vflib3 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove vflib3

Remove vflib3 Configurations and Data

To remove vflib3 configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge vflib3

Remove vflib3 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove vflib3 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vflib3
