How To Install velvet on Ubuntu 22.04

on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is velvet
velvet is:
Velvet is a de novo genomic assembler specially designed for short read sequencing technologies, such as Solexa or 454, developed by Daniel Zerbino and Ewan Birney at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), near Cambridge, in the United Kingdom.
Velvet currently takes in short read sequences, removes errors then produces high quality unique contigs. It then uses paired read information, if available, to retrieve the repeated areas between contigs.
There are three methods to install velvet
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install velvet Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install velvet
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install velvet
Install velvet Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install velvet
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install velvet
Install velvet Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude

How To Uninstall velvet on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the velvet

sudo apt-get -y autoremove velvet
Remove velvet Configurations and Data

configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge velvet
