In this tutorial we learn how to install vdr-plugin-satip on Kali Linux.

What is vdr-plugin-satip

vdr-plugin-satip is:

This plugin integrates SAT>IP network devices seamlessly into VDR. You can use any SAT>IP channel like any other normal DVB channel for live viewing, recording, etc. The plugin also features full section filtering capabilities which allow for example EIT information to be extracted from the incoming stream.

This release does actually not contain any channelscan, pls. follow the README to setup entries manually for the channels.conf.

There are three methods to install vdr-plugin-satip on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install vdr-plugin-satip Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install vdr-plugin-satip using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install vdr-plugin-satip

Install vdr-plugin-satip Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install vdr-plugin-satip using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install vdr-plugin-satip

Install vdr-plugin-satip Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install vdr-plugin-satip using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install vdr-plugin-satip

How To Uninstall vdr-plugin-satip on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the vdr-plugin-satip package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge vdr-plugin-satip
