How To Install v-sim on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install v-sim
on Debian 12.
What is v-sim
v-sim is:
V_Sim visualizes atomic structures such as crystals, grain boundaries, molecules and so on (either in binary format, or in plain text format).
The rendering is done in pseudo-3D with spheres (atoms) or arrows (spins). The user can interact through many functions to choose the view, set the bindings, draw cutting planes, compute surfaces from scalar fields, duplicate nodes, measure geometry… Moreover V_Sim allows one to export the view as images in PNG, JPG, PDF (bitmap), SVG (scheme) and other formats. Some tools are also available to colorize atoms from data values or to animate on screen many position files.
There are three methods to install v-sim
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install v-sim Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install v-sim
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install v-sim
Install v-sim Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install v-sim
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install v-sim
Install v-sim Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install v-sim
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install v-sim
How To Uninstall v-sim on Debian 12
To uninstall only the v-sim
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove v-sim
Uninstall v-sim And Its Dependencies
To uninstall v-sim
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove v-sim
Remove v-sim Configurations and Data
To remove v-sim
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge v-sim
Remove v-sim configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove v-sim
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge v-sim
