How To Install upass on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install upass on Kali Linux.
What is upass
upass is:
upass is a curses-based (more specifically urwid) interface for pass, the standard Unix password manager. It provides a simple, but powerful view of the password store and can copy passwords or extended information to the clipboard interactively.
pass is the standard unix password manager, to be found in the pass package.
There is another implementation of a curses interface, gopass.pw, but it is a complete reimplementation. In contrast, upass simply wraps the standard pass implementation.
There are three methods to install upass on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install upass Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install upass using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install upassInstall upass Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install upass using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install upassInstall upass Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install upass using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install upassHow To Uninstall upass on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the upass package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove upassUninstall upass And Its Dependencies
To uninstall upass and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove upassRemove upass Configurations and Data
To remove upass configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge upassRemove upass configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove upass configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge upassDependencies
