How To Install universal-ctags on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install universal-ctags on Kali Linux.
What is universal-ctags
universal-ctags is:
ctags parses source code and produces a sort of index mapping the names of significant entities (e.g. functions, classes, variables) to the location where that entity is defined. This index is used by editors like vi and emacsen to allow moving to the definition of a user-specified entity.
Universal Ctags is a fork of Exuberant Ctags that adds additional features as well as support for more languages.
There are three methods to install universal-ctags on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install universal-ctags Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install universal-ctags using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install universal-ctagsInstall universal-ctags Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install universal-ctags using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

To uninstall only the universal-ctags package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove universal-ctagsRemove universal-ctags Configurations and Data
To remove universal-ctags configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge universal-ctagsRemove universal-ctags configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
