How To Install unclutter on Debian 11
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install unclutter
on Debian 11.
What is unclutter
unclutter is:
unclutter hides your X mouse cursor when you don’t need it, to prevent it from getting in the way. You have only to move the mouse to restore the mouse cursor.
This is the original unclutter implementation from the 90s which works well with classic X11 programs. For a more modern implementation which works better with some more modern applications and UI libraries, see unclutter-xfixes.
There are three methods to install unclutter
on Debian 11. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install unclutter Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install unclutter
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install unclutter
Install unclutter Using apt
Update apt database with apt

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install unclutter
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install unclutter
Install unclutter Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install unclutter
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install unclutter
How To Uninstall unclutter on Debian 11
To uninstall only the unclutter
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove unclutter
Uninstall unclutter And Its Dependencies
To uninstall unclutter
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove unclutter
Remove unclutter Configurations and Data
To remove unclutter
configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge unclutter
