How To Install umap-learn on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install umap-learn on Debian 12.
What is umap-learn
umap-learn is:
Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection (UMAP) is a dimension reduction technique that can be used for visualisation similarly to t- SNE, but also for general non-linear dimension reduction. The algorithm is founded on three assumptions about the data:
- The data is uniformly distributed on a Riemannian manifold;
- The Riemannian metric is locally constant (or can be approximated as such);
- The manifold is locally connected.
From these assumptions it is possible to model the manifold with a fuzzy topological structure. The embedding is found by searching for a low dimensional projection of the data that has the closest possible equivalent fuzzy topological structure.
There are three methods to install umap-learn on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install umap-learn Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install umap-learn using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install umap-learn

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install umap-learn using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install umap-learn
Install umap-learn Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install umap-learn using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install umap-learn
How To Uninstall umap-learn on Debian 12
To uninstall only the umap-learn package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove umap-learn
Uninstall umap-learn And Its Dependencies
To uninstall umap-learn and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove umap-learn
Remove umap-learn Configurations and Data
To remove umap-learn configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge umap-learn
Remove umap-learn configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove umap-learn configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
