How To Install ulogd2 on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ulogd2 on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is ulogd2
ulogd2 is:
ulogd is an advanced netfilter logging daemon. It can act as a replacement for syslog for logging netfilter ruleset violations (via the NFLOG or ULOG iptables targets), can gather per-connection accounting using NFCT, or gather per-rule accounting using NFACCT. Output can be sent to plain text log files, a variety of SQL database formats, XML files, pcap files, syslog, and many other formats.
Support for the DBI database abstraction layer, MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite 3 databases is in separate packages called ulogd2-dbi, ulogd2-mysql, ulogd2-pgsql and ulogd2-sqlite3 respectively. Support for writing to JSON files is the ulogd2-json package. Support for writing to pcap files is in the ulogd2-pcap package.
There are three methods to install ulogd2 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ulogd2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ulogd2 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ulogd2
Install ulogd2 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ulogd2 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ulogd2
Install ulogd2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ulogd2 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ulogd2
How To Uninstall ulogd2 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the ulogd2 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ulogd2
Uninstall ulogd2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ulogd2 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ulogd2
Remove ulogd2 Configurations and Data
To remove ulogd2 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ulogd2
Remove ulogd2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ulogd2 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ulogd2
