How To Install udiskie on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install udiskie on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is udiskie
udiskie is:
udiskie is a front-end for UDisks written in Python. Its main purpose is automatically mounting removable media, such as CDs or flash drives. It has optional mount notifications, a GTK+ tray icon and user level CLIs for manual mount and unmount operations. The media will be mounted in a new directory under /media or /run/media/USER/, using the device name if possible.
This package is needed to support automounting removable media when nautilus is not available to control UDisks2.
There are three methods to install udiskie on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install udiskie Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install udiskie using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install udiskie
Install udiskie Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install udiskie using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install udiskie
Install udiskie Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install udiskie using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install udiskie
How To Uninstall udiskie on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the udiskie package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove udiskie
Uninstall udiskie And Its Dependencies
To uninstall udiskie and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove udiskie
Remove udiskie Configurations and Data
To remove udiskie configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge udiskie
Remove udiskie configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove udiskie configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge udiskie
