How To Install udftools on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install udftools on Kali Linux.

What is udftools

udftools is:

This package contains a number of user-space tools related to creating filesystems in the UDF (Universal Disk Format), which is primarily used for DVDs, but sometimes also CD-ROMs and HDDs:

mkudffs - Format a device, creating an empty UDF filesystem udflabel - show or change UDF filesystem label udfinfo - show information about UDF filesystem wrudf - Maintains a UDF filesystem cdrwtool - Low-level drive management (e.g. set writing speed, format) pktsetup - Set up a packet writing device (/dev/pktcdvd0) for a drive

There are three methods to install udftools on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install udftools Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install udftools using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install udftools

Install udftools Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install udftools using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install udftools

Install udftools Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install udftools using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install udftools

How To Uninstall udftools on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the udftools package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove udftools

Uninstall udftools And Its Dependencies

To uninstall udftools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove udftools

Remove udftools Configurations and Data

To remove udftools configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge udftools
