How To Install twin on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install twin
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is twin
twin is:
Twin is a windowing environment with mouse support, window manager, terminal emulator and networked clients, all inside a text display. It supports a variety of displays:
- plain text terminals (any termcap/ncurses compatible terminal, Linux console, twin’s own terminal emulator);
- X11, where it can be used as a multi-window xterm;
- itself (you can display a twin on another twin);
- twdisplay, a general network-transparent display client, used to attach/detach more displays on-the-fly.
There are three methods to install twin
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install twin Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install twin
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install twin
Install twin Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install twin
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install twin
Install twin Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install twin
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install twin
How To Uninstall twin on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the twin
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove twin
Uninstall twin And Its Dependencies
To uninstall twin
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove twin
Remove twin Configurations and Data
To remove twin
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge twin
Remove twin configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove twin
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge twin
