What is tuned-utils

tuned-utils is:

The tuned package contains a daemon that tunes system settings dynamically. It does so by monitoring the usage of several system components periodically. Based on that information components will then be put into lower or higher power saving modes to adapt to the current usage. Currently only ethernet network and ATA harddisk devices are implemented.

This package contains utilities that can help you to fine tune and debug your system and manage tuned profiles.

There are three methods to install tuned-utils on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install tuned-utils Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install tuned-utils using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install tuned-utils

Install tuned-utils Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install tuned-utils using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install tuned-utils

Install tuned-utils Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install tuned-utils using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install tuned-utils

How To Uninstall tuned-utils on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the tuned-utils package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove tuned-utils

Uninstall tuned-utils And Its Dependencies

To uninstall tuned-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove tuned-utils

Remove tuned-utils Configurations and Data

To remove tuned-utils configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge tuned-utils

Remove tuned-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove tuned-utils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tuned-utils
