How To Install tuned-utils-systemtap on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install tuned-utils-systemtap on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is tuned-utils-systemtap
tuned-utils-systemtap is:
The tuned package contains a daemon that tunes system settings dynamically. It does so by monitoring the usage of several system components periodically. Based on that information components will then be put into lower or higher power saving modes to adapt to the current usage. Currently only ethernet network and ATA harddisk devices are implemented.
This package contains several systemtap scripts to allow detailed manual monitoring of the system. Instead of the typical IO/sec it collects minimal, maximal and average time between operations to be able to identify applications that behave power inefficient (many small operations instead of fewer large ones).
There are three methods to install tuned-utils-systemtap on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install tuned-utils-systemtap Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install tuned-utils-systemtap using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tuned-utils-systemtap
Install tuned-utils-systemtap Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install tuned-utils-systemtap using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install tuned-utils-systemtap
Install tuned-utils-systemtap Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install tuned-utils-systemtap using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install tuned-utils-systemtap
How To Uninstall tuned-utils-systemtap on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the tuned-utils-systemtap package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tuned-utils-systemtap
Uninstall tuned-utils-systemtap And Its Dependencies
To uninstall tuned-utils-systemtap and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tuned-utils-systemtap
Remove tuned-utils-systemtap Configurations and Data
To remove tuned-utils-systemtap configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tuned-utils-systemtap
Remove tuned-utils-systemtap configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove tuned-utils-systemtap configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tuned-utils-systemtap
