How To Install transmission-cli on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install transmission-cli on Kali Linux.

What is transmission-cli

transmission-cli is:

Transmission is a set of lightweight BitTorrent clients (in GUI, CLI and daemon form). All its incarnations feature a very simple, intuitive interface on top on an efficient, cross-platform back-end.

This package contains a (deprecated) stand-alone command-line client, transmission-remote to interface with transmission-daemon and tools to create, edit and inspect torrent files.

There are three methods to install transmission-cli on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install transmission-cli Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install transmission-cli using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install transmission-cli

Install transmission-cli Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install transmission-cli using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install transmission-cli

Install transmission-cli Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install transmission-cli using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install transmission-cli

How To Uninstall transmission-cli on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the transmission-cli package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove transmission-cli

Uninstall transmission-cli And Its Dependencies

To uninstall transmission-cli and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove transmission-cli

Remove transmission-cli Configurations and Data

To remove transmission-cli configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge transmission-cli

Remove transmission-cli configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove transmission-cli configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge transmission-cli
