How To Install traceroute on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install traceroute on Kali Linux.
What is traceroute
traceroute is:
The traceroute utility displays the route used by IP packets on their way to a specified network (or Internet) host. Traceroute displays the IP number and host name (if possible) of the machines along the route taken by the packets. Traceroute is used as a network debugging tool. If you’re having network connectivity problems, traceroute will show you where the trouble is coming from along the route.
Install traceroute if you need a tool for diagnosing network connectivity problems.
There are three methods to install traceroute on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install traceroute Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install traceroute using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tracerouteInstall traceroute Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install traceroute using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install tracerouteInstall traceroute Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install traceroute using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install tracerouteHow To Uninstall traceroute on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the traceroute package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tracerouteUninstall traceroute And Its Dependencies
To uninstall traceroute and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tracerouteRemove traceroute Configurations and Data
To remove traceroute configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tracerouteRemove traceroute configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove traceroute configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tracerouteDependencies
