How To Install tor-geoipdb on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install tor-geoipdb on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is tor-geoipdb
tor-geoipdb is:
This package provides a GeoIP database for Tor, i.e. it maps IPv4 addresses to countries.
Bridge relays (special Tor relays that aren’t listed in the main Tor directory) use this information to report which countries they see connections from. These statistics enable the Tor network operators to learn when certain countries start blocking access to bridges.
Clients can also use this to learn what country each relay is in, so Tor controllers like arm or Vidalia can use it, or if they want to configure path selection preferences.
There are three methods to install tor-geoipdb on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install tor-geoipdb Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install tor-geoipdb using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tor-geoipdb
Install tor-geoipdb Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install tor-geoipdb using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install tor-geoipdb
Install tor-geoipdb Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install tor-geoipdb using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install tor-geoipdb
How To Uninstall tor-geoipdb on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the tor-geoipdb package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tor-geoipdb
Uninstall tor-geoipdb And Its Dependencies
To uninstall tor-geoipdb and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tor-geoipdb
Remove tor-geoipdb Configurations and Data
To remove tor-geoipdb configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tor-geoipdb
Remove tor-geoipdb configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove tor-geoipdb configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tor-geoipdb
