What is tomcat9

tomcat9 is:

Apache Tomcat implements the Java Servlet and the JavaServer Pages (JSP) specifications from Oracle, and provides a “pure Java” HTTP web server environment for Java code to run.

This package contains only the startup scripts for the system-wide daemon. No documentation or web applications are included here, please install the tomcat9-docs and tomcat9-examples packages if you want them. Install tomcat9-user instead of this package if you don’t want Tomcat to start as a service.

There are three methods to install tomcat9 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install tomcat9 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install tomcat9 using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install tomcat9 using apt by running the following command:

Install tomcat9 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install tomcat9 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install tomcat9

How To Uninstall tomcat9 on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the tomcat9 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove tomcat9

Uninstall tomcat9 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall tomcat9 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove tomcat9

Remove tomcat9 Configurations and Data

To remove tomcat9 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge tomcat9

Remove tomcat9 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove tomcat9 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tomcat9
